How To Get The Results You Want In Your Life!



The Model is a tool I use to help my clients see how their Thoughts are creating the results in their lives.

The Model can be used to help you figure out why you are feeling a certain way. 
Or it can help you see how to change the results you are getting in your life.

This is not a new concept, but just a new way of looking at things.

Our thoughts have always caused the results in our lives.

Most people think it's the circumstances in their lives that are causing them the problems they have, but really it's our thoughts about the circumstances that cause the results.

The Circumstances are neutral, they are the facts!  It's your Thoughts about the Circumstance that causes you to have a Feeling that you take Action on that creates the Results in your life.

Here is how we define the five categories:

Circumstances: Things that happen in the world that we cannot control.
This could be the weather, something someone else did, or your past

Thoughts: These are sentences that happen in your mind about the Circumstance.
Thoughts like 'This horrible thing happened'; 'This weather is going to ruin my day'
Nothing that happens is terrible or wonderful until you have a thought about it.

Feelings:  A one word to describe how the thought is making you feel
For example sad, happy, angry, scared, overwhelmed, anxious, fearful
A Feeling is just a vibration that happens in your body—caused by your thoughts, not the circumstances.

Actions:  Is your Behavior—it's how you act or react because of the feeling you are having because of your thought about the Circumstance. 
It's what we do in the world. And this can include inaction, doing nothing.

Results: What we see in the world (in our lives) as an effect of our actions.
The result will always be evidence for the original thought.

And in the end, the Results always prove the Thought.

When I first teach this to my clients they don't really understand so I have to go through some examples to help them grasp the concept.  Once they see how it works and how using it on a daily basis can change the results they get in all areas of their lives, they realize they have the control & power to change their lives.

Here is an example about a friend being last for a lunch engagement

Circumstance: She arrived at our noon lunch date at 12:20 pm.
Thought: She does not respect me.
Feeling: Angry.
Action: Act passive aggressive. Make snide comments.
Result: I don’t respect myself or her.

The circumstance is: She arrived to our noon lunch date at 12:20 pm. FACT!
The thought this triggered was: She does not respect me.
When I think this thought, I feel angry.
When I feel this emotion: I act in a way that is passive aggressive and snide toward her.
This gives me the ultimate result of a loss of respect in my relationship with her, which proves the original thought—she doesn’t respect me. 
Additionally, when I act this way, I'm not showing up in the way I want, which makes me lose respect for myself as well.

An alternate thought concerning the same issue will cause different feelings and therefore, create different results.

Circumstance: She arrived to our noon lunch date at 12:20 pm.
Thoughts: She must be busy—I won’t take it personally.
Feelings: Appreciative.
Actions: Act kind and understanding.
Results: No effect personally—no negativity.

You can see it's the exact same circumstance creating a different experience based on a different thought.

It is never the circumstance causing your feelings — it is always your thinking about the circumstance.

This tool can be used on every Circumstance in your life no matter how big or small.
If you want to change the results you're getting in your life it's your thoughts that need to change, not your circumstances.
