3 Things to do to get the Scale Moving Down - The 3rd Thing...

Image
Now that you know about the benefits of not snacking and of delaying your 1st meal of the day, let's talk about t he third thing... If you really want to keep your Insulin levels low so your body can access the fat you already have stored for fuel you need to stop eating concentrated food. "What are concentrated foods?" you ask They are any foods not in their natural state, meaning they have been ground up into a powder or had all the juice squeezed out if it.  Like flours, sugars & juices.  It probably takes  3-5  apples to create 1 glass of apple juice where all the sugar from the apples is concentrated.  But would you eat 3-5 apples in 1 sitting, probably not - So eat the whole apple and skip the juice Flour is wheat that is ground up and made into a powder, and we aren't just referring to wheat flour, this includes all the other flours too, almond, coconut, chickpea, etc they are all concentrated. And sugar is the same - it has been...

Yesterday we talked about cutting out snacking to help keep our insulin levels low so that our bodies could access the fat we already have stored for fuel. Today we are going to discuss extending our overnight fast.  Did you know that Everyone fasts Every Day?  We do, every night when we go to sleep, our bodies go into a fasting mode.  That is why it is important to stop eating 3-4 hours before you go to sleep so your body can get the full restorative benefits of a good night's sleep. The second thing... Don't Eat Breakfast right away Do you know who coined the term "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day"?  Breakfast Food Companies!! The word Breakfast means to Break your Fast.  'What Fast?' you ask, 'I don't Fast'.  Not true, everyone fasts every night when they are sleeping. By skipping Breakfast, or postponing it,  you are allowing your Insulin levels to remain low for a longer period of time which all...

The 1st thing... There are so many programs & plans out there to help you lose that extra fat, and they probably all work if you follow them, but once you stop following them the pounds usually come back with friends. There is no cookie cutter approach for everyone because we all burn calories differently and we all have different starting points and goals. Because of this, I help my clients figure out what will work for them specifically.  I help the design the program that works for them and I help them manage their thinking to get the results they want. I'm sure you have heard "the best work out program for you is the one that you will do!" Well, my saying for your weight loss program is 'Lose it the way you can Live it'.  Meaning I help my clients design a program that becomes their lifestyle so they can not only lose the weight but keep it off permanently!! It takes several weeks for my client to design their programs and ...

You can Lose Weight without Exercising!

Image
When I started on my journey to get my weight off permanently my Life Coach told me I didn't have to exercise.  When I heard that I was all in!  I have never enjoyed exercising and to learn I could get my weight off without having to exercise I felt like I had finally found what was going to work for me and it did!! I quickly &  effortlessly drop 30 pounds and that is when I decided I wanted to become a Life Coach and help others to do the same.  Most of my clients have over 50 pounds to lose and exercise is not a priority to them.  I tell my clients to not change their activity level when they first get started on my program.  Just keep doing whatever they are doing and if they currently are doing no exercise at all, that's fine, don't start exercising.  Once they have been on the program for a few weeks and they begin to feel better and have more energy, I suggest, if they want to start exercising, they begin with going...

Why Diets Don't Work - Part 3

Why Diets Don't Work - Part 3 - OVERDESIRE In parts 1 & 2 of this series we talked about Hunger and Overhunger.   Part 1 - How our thoughts may be creating feelings of hunger when we really aren’t hunger and our bodies don’t need fuel. Part 2 - The role Insulin plays in causing Overhunger and keeps us from accessing the fat we already have on our bodies for fuel. Now I want to help you understand Overdesire. If we focus just on reducing or resisting overeating, we will not get to the root cause of the problem: Overdesire . When we try to cut back on food to lose weight without addressing the issue of desire, we actually increase our desire for food.   And because willpower is a finite resource, this approach is not sustainable for most people. We Overdesire food for three reasons:       The first reason we Overdesire food is because our neurotransmitters are programmed to desire anything that gives a subtle, let al...

Why Diets Don't Work - Part 2 - OVERHUNGER In my last post we talked about the different kinds of hunger, the sensation of hunger vs. the thought of hunger. Now we are ready to talk about Overhunger and what causes it. People often overeat because they are not tuned in to their hunger signals. To understand Overhunger you need to understand the roles the hormones Insulin, Leptin and Ghrelin play in your Overhunger.   And of these 3, Insulin is the most important.   Insulin causes Overhunger , let me explain why… HORMONES   IMPACTING   WEIGHT   LOSS Insulin is the hormone that regulates your blood sugar. It's a very, very good hormone and you want to have it in your body.   However, too much insulin in the bloodstream is the primary cause of today’s obesity epidemic. Insulin is a fat storage hormone.   Its job is to store fat.   When it’s present in our blood, we do not burn fat; we are in storage mode. Th...

Why Diets Don't Work   - Part 1 - HUNGER Diets don't work because they only treat the symptom - being overweight. We are told to eat less and exercise more and this will work for a short time, but in the long game, it doesn't work. We need to lose it the way we can live it, without using will power or feeling deprived. We are overweight because we overeat; the question we need to ask ourselves is “Why do we overeat?"   Being overweight is the symptom, but figuring out WHY we overeat is addressing the problem. We overeat because we have Overhunger and Overdesire. Before we delve into Overhunger & Overdesire let’s first define hunger. 2 Kinds of Hunger There are 2 kinds of hunger, the sensation of hunger and the thought of hunger and these are very different, but most of us don’t know the difference and we react to them in the same way   - by eating way more than our body needs for fuel. The sensation of hunger starts in our body...
